Photo description: Two robots battle it out in a game of robotic soccer. The robots use light sensors to pick up the infrared signal sent out by the specially designed ball. The robots have motors, touch sensors and sophisticated programs, which allow them to change their behaviour depending in different conditions. They play inside a custom-made soccer field that has goals at either end. Normally a grey scale field is used but the robots can also verify they are going in the right direction by using compass sensors. Robot soccer is popular in the Robocup and Robocup Junior competitions with one of the main goals being to defeat a human opposition by the year 2050.
